Reasons why Cape Coloured People Pull Out their Teeth......... Shoooo~!

Geraldine (23) Cape Flats
"I was twelve years old when I got my four front teeth pulled out because all my friends did so. I told the dentist it hurt when I ate ice cream. That wasn't true of course but if you tell the dentist it is for fashion you have to pay. It was the biggest mistake I've ever made because there was nothing wrong with my teeth and I can't get them back."

Martha (30) Simons Town
"Friends told me the kissing was much better that is why I pulled them out. Apparently you feel each others tongue better but I'm still not convinced about the advantage of that. A dentist from overseas pulled them out for free. I told her I had a bad toothache, I didn't dare to tell her I was curious about the kissing thing."

Samuel (31) Fish Hoek
"Two years ago I pulled them out. I did it myself. It is a fashion statement, many of my friends did it before for the same reason. It hurt a lot but I think it looks cool so the pain was definitely worth it. I want people to see I'm colored, the missing teeth prove who I am. My grandfather was a fisherman and pulled them out because he could whistle much louder without these teeth, which is useful out on the sea."

Damian (27) Ocean View"I took all my upper teeth out and want to get rid of the others as well. I'll do it step by step because it is quite expensive at the private clinic where go to. But I want a guarantee that it will be done properly. I want to put gold in my mouth because gold looks cool. But I don't have the money yet so for now I live without upper teeth, which doesn't look bad I think. People like my smile."

Nitl (32) Ocean View
"I was ten when I pulled them out. My brother told me to do so, I didn't know why at the time. Now I know it is fashionable all over Cape Town and it tells who you are. But, most importantly, the kissing is much better, my girlfriend likes it a lot. It is great to feel each others palate."

Tuan (25) Fish Hoek
"I think I have a better smile without my front teeth. I pulled them out a year ago. I should have done it earlier. My friends and family did it as well, their smiles are much nicer. I would like at least one gold tooth but that is going to cost me R600, I don't have the money yet."

Tanya (33) Calk Bay
"I pulled them out for my husband, he loves my 'passion gap'. He thinks the kissing is better, besides that he can't think of getting a bjob from a woman with front teeth. I think it spoils your face though, my nose dropped a little bit. I bought false teeth but lost them while swimming in the sea. If my daughter wants to pull her teeth out, I wouldn't let her, for sure."

Marcellino (16) Calk Bay
"All my friends did it. It is cool! Now I'm saving money for some gold teeth, which would be even cooler. Unfortunately they are very expensive. My parents couldn't be bothered. They asked me why I pulled them out, I told them it looks cool and it shows who I am. All my friends agree, fortunately so does my girlfriend."

Lindsay (35) Retreat
"One of the reasons for me was the better French kissing. I don't regret it at all. There is no doubt about it, it is much better this way. My girlfriend did it recently as well, we enjoy kissing even more. Besides that it is a fashion statement. All my friends pulled out their front teeth. It is a normal thing to do for us and it shows who you are. That is important to me

I've never heard such rubbish in my life. Up to now I've never heard one sensible and logical explanation why someone would wannt to go through life without teeth?! And you wonder why blacks and whites in SA don't take colored pple seriously- its bcause of crap like this!

Anonymous said...

the original reason for pulling out your teeth was to replaced them will false teeth that have gold in them. gold teeth was a sign that you made it in life, you had money. coloured people have been doing it so long that they forgot the real reason. you know when you do something that your parents and your grandparents where doing and you ask why are you doing it, they answers, i dont know, because my brothers did it. thats why coloured people love gold chains and gold rings, because gold is a symbol of prosperity for us. many youngsters dont know why they do it, they just say its fashion, but they saw it from their older brothers and they from their parents and they from their parents...

I am neither black or African. I am a woman.I had all my teeth out five years ago aged twenty. I did it because I wanted to experienc life without without teeth. I love it. I have no dentures and no intention of ever getting them. True my speech is affected in that I speak with a tonguey lisp.Yes there are things a toothless woman can do for her man that one with teeth cannot do as well. I persuaded my husband to go the same route and he likes it but wears dentures for work.He never wears them at home thankfully. I work as a secretary and am not in the least bit self concious or embaressed by my appearance. I smile as always and seldom get asked what happened to my teeth but when asked I tell them the truth. Some are shocked others intrigued.I cannot eat and apples peanuts and any foods that require a bite,ie bacon sandwiches.
I never liked apples or peanuts anyway so no loss there.. I would not go back to having teeth, even if I could, for a lottery jackpot win.You have to experience it to fully understand the joy it brings me and as a bonus it stops the wolf whistles when I turn around and flash my gummy smile. My husband says he would not go back either and has plucked up the courage to go uout socially with me without his dentures. Hopefully they will soon be in the bin. We will not try to influence our children, they can decide for themselves as adults bu certainly will not be dissapointed if the choose do the same.

Neither my husband or I have any teeth. We had then extracted on the sme day at clinic abroad. I never wanted to have teeth and my husband was intrigued and decided to join me. We were both twenty two at the time. Our teeth were healthy. We decided to wait for a year before considering dentures. That was five years ago. We enjoy being tothles so much we never went the dentures route and have no intention of ever having any kind of teeth in the future. Surely, it is alife changing experience. There is no going back and you must be sure before going down this route. My husband did it out of curiosity and has found it as enjoyable as me. I'm delighted he has no teeth. We go out sociably and have the circle of friends we always had. It was a nine day wonder at the time but now it is never mentioned. Has it affected others. I do'nt know but my eighteen year old sister is now sporting full dentures. She also loves not having her own teeth. She has only gone out a couple of times without them as yet but I can see them becoming redundent. The feeling of smooth gums is priceless and a unique pleasure. Yes there are a very few things we can't eat and we speak with a permanent lisp but it is no price to pay for the pleasure we have every day being toothless. If in the fullness of time any of my three children go the same route I will support them and in the meantime ensure that they get all the dental care they should. I will insist that thy will be at least eighteen before having their teeth out.

You know in the United States missing front teeth is just perceived as trashy and low class...people wouldn't dare intentionally pull them out. Having a gold front tooth is perceived as equally trashy and low class.

Anonymous said...

I am a white South African and have many coloured friends and as much as you don't want to believe it it is true the women really did have their teeth extracted at an early age because it was said to enhance their sexual life and because it was fashionable.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, I'm coloured aswell but if your boyfriend wants to remove his teeth, go for it! But for all the ladies removing their healthy teeth for a 'better sexlife', that's rubbish! they basically removing their teeth for somebody else. A fashion statement? who ever thinks that is one, must be blind, there are other ways to show 'who you are'. Nuf said

Carmy86 said...

why would you wanna show people who you are? Don't you know that already? My cousin had her frnt teeth extracted merely because they were horrible, not because of these statements, but now she has to be labelled according to the above reasons for getting them out. If we are honest, most ppl who took them out were kids or teenagers when they did so and no one thinks the same as they grow older yet no one cares how it will affect them when they do get older, I dont stay in CT anymore and ppl in PE are shocked that I do have my front teeth and my ppl are being laughed at, Surely, yes! That is who ppl think you are, use wisdom yoh! excuse the pun

Carmy86 said...

and i so agree, no wonder our race don't get taken seriously, because of crap like this, where does this logic come from, im sorry but it's no valid or real reason, the people i know who removed their teeth regret doing so, most who say they don't, are putting up a front, lol no pun intended

The so-called passion gap is a real gross fashion, but at least you can hide it by closing your big mouth....On the other hand what about rings through you nose, eyebrows or lips favoured mainly by " whites "....Now there is a thrashy fashion UGH !!!!

So piercings are trashy??? How could piercings possibly be trashy compared to no front teeth, thats ridiculous. These things are all done when we are young but piercings can be taken out and the hole will close but it doesnt matter how loud you sing "ALL I WANT FOR XMAS IS MY TWO FRONT TEETH", they will never ever ever ever grow back and that is something that all you parents should think about before you allow any child to go ahead and deface their bodies, especially your face. I have no problem with people that enjoy the feeling but in my opinion it does not look nice and in fact ages a person so much more.

Man..... it is stupid and funny at the same time. I am brazilian and my fiancee is from Cape town. When she told me about this i couldnt believe. hehe In Brazil this doesnt make sense at all. if you do that in here , people will laugh at you when you tell them the reasons what made you to do that crap. Besides it is irrational. Why in the hell someone is pulling out healthy teeth?
Maybe it is just a cultural thing.who knows? Fortunately my culture is different. heheheh

I am the husband of the lady above with no teeth. I also had all my teeth outat the same time basically to see what it was like as she was over the moon at the prospect of having all teeth out. Curiosity killed the cat and I had mine out also. I knew it would be life changing and it is and for the better. I love the smooth feeling of my gums. I enjoy my (now slight) lisp. There are very few limitations to being toothless and the pleasure outways them all. True, I can never eat whole apples or nuts etc but I can eat most things including steak. I never got dentures and five years down the road I can say with confidence I never will.I have no regrets even though it was something of a sudden decision. If I regret anything it is that I did not do it much sooner. It is a unique pleasure that cannot be described to them who still heve their teeth As long as you have the confidence to go out in public toothless it is gain all the way.My ', has dentures but is now wearing them very little. She has been out with us and with her boyfriend many times now with just her gummy smile. She had healthy teeth also before her extractions. She also sys she loves the toothless feeling and has wanted to have no teeth for as long as she remebers.

Do u suck the steak?

Drantheman said...

My origin is South African but thanks God I grew up in Zimbabwe and avoided this idiocy,It makes absolutely no sense.Embarassing to be coloured man

Anonymous said...

No I do not suck my steak. My gums are firm and I can easily chew most foods with them. It takes a while to get used to eating without teeth and one without teeth uses their tongue much more to push the food between their gums and against the roof of the mouth. True it is not as efficient as having teeth but the pleasure outweighs all drawbacks. You never can enjoy icecream the way a gummy can. The feeling on bare gums is priceless. I can barely remember what it was like to have teeth. This is my new normal and I love it. I could not care less what others think. This is me as I will be for the rest of my life. Yes I went into this kind of sudden but I wouldn't change it for the world.

I am white but I lived and worked in South Africa in the early eighties and was dating a coloured man. He had all his six front teeth, top and bottom extracted. This was perfectly normal for coloureds at the time. I found it sexy and had mine done as well. I am a bit of wuss and was knocked out for the extractions. I told the dentist to remove at least twelve of my front teeth and after that surprise me. He certainly did. When I came round I was totally toothless. I have to say once my gums had healed I really enjoyed being tothless.I never had any negative reaction socially and remained without dentures for 10 years. That was a further 7 years after our relationship ended. I dated many other men with and without teeth both coloured and white. I have since returned home and work in a high profile job and have to wear dentures at work. My mother was horrified that I had my teeth out when they were healthy. I felt she could not make a deal out of it as she has no teeth herself for years. I am married to a man who has no front teeth (7) following a hockey accident when he was in his teens. I hasten to add I did not marry him because of his lack of front teeth.I married him for love. He wears a partial denture. Why did I do it? Curiosity I suppose and it was no way unusual at that time in S/A to be toothless. Perhaps there was subtle preasure.
Would I do it again knowing all the consequences?
Yes and yes and yes.I absolutely love it and especially the time when I can leave the dentures in their box and go about without them. I have twice been on holidy in S/A and my teeth stayed at home.I never wear teeth in the house even when we have visitors.
Would I like my hubby to have no teeth? Yes
Have I ever asked him to have all his teeth out? No because its a life changing thing and something he has to decide himself without any preasure from me.
So far he is missing 16 in total so he is getting there. Most of his recently extracted teeth could have been saved by root canal treatment but he declined and had them out.

I am marrried to the lady above. My remaining teeth are now out. Done on the 1st march and now well healed and gums shrinking. I love the feeling of being toothless. My wife is over the moon that neither of us has or ever will have teeth for life. It is not easy persuading a dentist to remove healthy teeth but I was able to convince mine that this is what I wanted and if he wouldn'd do it I would have to do it myself. I also had to undertake, in writing, never to seek compensation from him in the future if I regretted it. I said it would be rather futile as he had all the evidence to dispose of. Kissing is a new and better experience with no teeth than it was with just no front teeth and there are sexual benefits, especially for my wife by me being totally without teeth I can eat more and more solid food and very soon nothing excepts nuts will be off the menue.I regret that I had not done this much sooner. I will probably get full dentures but there is no rush.

I am a woman and I have no teeth since I was thirteen, yes thirteen. I was back in the dentists chair at fifteen to have my wisdom teeth out as they erupted. It wasn't for fashion I had a full mouth extraction. It had to be done to put an end to the nightmare that was my teeth. Now I can hardly remember what natural teeth felt like but I will never forget the pain. I got dentures when I was sixteen as the dentist calculated that my face/mouth had finished growing. Wearing them was difficult at first as I was used to going about with bare gums. Twenty years later and three sets of dentures later I still like to leave them out as much as I can and often go out without them.I never wear them in bed. My gums and facial bones are still very good. I feel if I could have the choice of a perfect set of natural teeth or no teeth I would stay as I am. This is my normal and I would not change it. I lead a full and active life and have a woderfull husband and three beautiful daughters all under ten. Being toothless is not a physical problem but may be a phycological proplem for some people. I had no choice and continue to enjoy it.

Why all this hatred for people that are different to you. People throughout the ages have modified their appearance. I am a thirty five year old woman and a mother to a ten year old daughter and wife to the most wonderful husband in the world. I have no teeth. So what? I had all my teeeth out in Mexico when I was fifteen, including my embryonic wisdom teeth. I had my teeth out because I wanted to be toothless. My mother, no teeth herself, agreed that I could do it once I was fifteen. I always wanted to do it but had to wait until I was fifteen. When I woke up after the surgery with my gums sutured ( uncomfortable)and totally devoid of teeth and knowing that this was how I would be forever was the most pleasurable feeling possible. My gums healed in two weeks although they continued shrinking slowly for several months.I went out and about without any shyness or bashfullness about my bare gums. I got dentures when was twenty and hated their bulkiness, at first, and how they made me look. They are a good fit and are comfortale but they are not me so the stay in their box more than in my mouth. My normal is toothless and I love it. As for my husband he prefers me without as he says my smile with bare gums is beautiful. I tend to agree. I will not apologise for altering my dentition for my pleasure. You do your own thing. Live and let live

My at that time girlfriend and I being 18 Wanted to have all teeth pulled. We visited family in USA near the mexican border.I phoned afemale dentist in Los Algodones and told her that we wanted full mouth extraction both of us even though the teeth were healthy. No problem with that only signed a paper that it was against the dentists recommendations.
X-rays and impressions for both tuesday and wednesday32 teeth out on both and dentures in . Very strange feeling and discomfort for a week , but now 20 years post e day we enjoy being toothless!!!!!!
My wife is so pretty with no teeth and we havenever regretted what we did
